2016, you were too good.

I photographed forty weddings at home and in some pretty magical places around the world. I met forty welcoming families, (actually, 80!) forty amazing friend groups, forty unique couples.

I started the year off in snowy Whistler for an incredible outdoor winter wedding at Nita Lake Lodge. That was pure magic, and the perfect start to 2016.

The spring brought an elopement on the Sunshine Coast, and a big German wedding in Heidelberg. That was my first time in Germany and I enjoyed exploring the city with my camera in hand. I travelled alone but made some wonderful friends along the way, and even had a chance to shoot with my friend Aaron Schwartz, a talented Swiss ski photographer and designer.

When summer arrived, I was shooting up to three weddings a week. I joined couples in Whistler, Squamish, Tofino, the Okanagan, Agassiz and Vancouver to name a few. I shot mostly outdoor weddings that showcased BC’s beautiful scenery.

The fall brought some stunning weddings that landed features on my favourite wedding blog, Once Wed, and magazine, Magnolia Rouge (stay tuned for publishing dates). September is always one of my favourite months cialis generique for weddings, and it’s usually my busiest month. This year was no exception.

After wrapping up my last local wedding of the year in Whistler, I hopped on a plane for two unforgettable destination weddings.

I returned home to Vancouver for two weeks, with one more wedding to shoot. The one I had been looking forward to all year. Ballyseede Castle in Ireland! Ireland is one of my favourite places to travel, so having the opportunity to join Paul, Katie and their families was everything. Ireland has my heart for many reasons, but it is the charming people and the natural beauty that are unforgettable. I highly recommend visiting.

The launch of my print shop and a new website were big goals for 2016, and I’m proud to have those up and running. I was overwhelmed by your print shop orders over the holidays, thank you all for your support!

One of the biggest honours was having editors and publications recognize my work this year: Once Wed, Real Weddings Magazine, Magnolia Rouge Magazine and Wedding Sparrow. I shot my first magazine cover for Real Weddings Magazine, which hit newsstands today! This was made possible by the talented wedding professionals I worked with this year: planners, stylists, florists, hair and makeup, dress boutiques. You all are amazing. Narcity Vancouver named me one of the top Vancouver wedding photographers that will magically capture your day alongside some really talented artists in the city.

While it is wonderful to be recognized within the industry, it is my clients I want to give a big hug too. Thank you, each and every one of you, who hired me to capture your wedding. It is a privilege to capture the joy and excitement of your day, one I certainly do not take lightly. I had a blast working with you. Thank you for your trust in my work.

2017 is going to be unreal. Stay tuned for my first wedding in France, a return visit to Maui, some adventures in Australia and, of course, tons of magic right here in BC.

iceland

February 18, 2016

In the fall, I planned a last minute trip to Iceland. I booked the trip five days before I left. For those of you who know me, this type of impulsive behaviour does not align with my workaholic ways (go me!).

Minimal planning occurred, so I was lucky my friend Kirsten had a copy of the Lonely Planet book which I dove into on the plane. All we really knew was 1) we were staying in Reykjavik for the first night, 2) we were renting a car, and 3) we had an appointment at the Blue Lagoon first thing once we landed. (Number two and three are requirements for those of you heading to Iceland). I also remembered Shari and Mike’s incredibly beautiful blog post about their travels to Iceland, so I shot them a quick note from the airport (thanks guys!). Between Kirsten’s research, the Iceland Lonely Planet and Shari and Mike’s recommendations, we were set for our road trip adventure.

This is a collection of film photographs I took on my trip to Iceland. They do not do this diverse, magical country justice. You should see it for yourself one day, and when you do here is what I recommend:

1. Rent a car (the flexibility is key)

2. Bring layers (it’s freezing, and that wind!)

3. You will 100% see Icelandic horses, but the Northern Lights are another story (darn!)

4. Go for drinks, or stay at Kex Hostel (it is lively and full of beautiful people)

5. Drive the Snaefellsnes Peninsula (pack a sandwich, or two)

6. Visit the Blue Lagoon when you land (it’s the perfect welcome https://www.viagrasansordonnancefr.com/ to Iceland)

7. Do not go swimming in Vik, it is dangerous (I learned this after I went swimming in Vik)

8. Try out the swimming pool culture (it’s a popular weekend activity there)

9. Walk the shores of Jökulsárlón (I’ve never seen anything like it)

10. Visit the waterfalls early in the morning to avoid tourist crowds (like Skogafoss)

When I was in Paris earlier this year, I had the joy of photographing Eric and Richelle.

Calling Toronto home, these two talented newly weds spent a year in Paris sipping lattes, exploring the city and documenting their adventures along the way. Check out their work, it’s gorgeous! Thank you for sharing Paris with Blair and I, what a wonderful afternoon spent getting to know you!

haida gwaii- personal photographs

July 16, 2015

Travelling around BC has not always been my top priority. Instead, I spent time in Europe, Asia and Australia- the further away, the better. When I met Blair, he had an innate desire to travel around Canada, and in particular BC, which was sparked by his Grandfather’s tales of fishing, hiking and canoeing in Ontario. Blair’s desire for exploration and discovery close to home has influenced me and I am forever grateful.

In June, our desire for BC travel took us to Haida Gwaii. Filled with diverse wildlife, unbelievable scenery and unique culture, Haida Gwaii is a series of islands located 700km north of Vancouver, BC.

When our plane landed in Sandspit we walked to our accommodation just five minutes down the road to meet our good friend Grace. Grace works as a guide for Moresby Explorers, one of the main touring companies on the island. We spent a couple of days in a zodiac on the water with a small group of people eager to see the beauty and stories offered up by this incredible part of BC. This is truly one of the most unique experiences I have ever had. We canoed across Mosquito Lake, climbed up mountains and visited Haida Village sites. One of our nights was spent at a remote floating lodge just outside of Gwaii Haanas national park. We ate BC spot prawns that were harvested out of the ocean within minutes. We watched eagles swoop down to the sea to capture their dinner, while fawns teetered along dirt roads after their mothers.

If you have a chance to visit Haida Gwaii one day, do it. It is full of magic and beauty and will spark something within you. At least, it did for me.

All of the photographs were shot on a Contax 645 on medium format film. Thank you to Grace and Blair for stepping in from time to time ensuring I made it in a few photos. These will be dear memories for me, I am grateful to you both and to Haida Gwaii for a beautiful trip.
